Drawing (Out) Your Story: Comics & Memoir with Amy Kurzweil
You don’t have to be master draftsman to communicate with both words and images. In this course, you’ll learn techniques for using drawings, symbols, and graphic design to tell your story. We’ll survey the work of cartoonists, graphic novelists, and visual storytellers like Chris Ware, Roz Chast, Lynda Barry and others, while we work toward creating (small pieces of) our own stories in these modes. Emphasis is on drawing quickly, exploiting your own style, even if it's "naive," and prioritizing the meaning of our drawings rather than their aesthetic. Each session will focus on a different technique, and an imitative writing and drawing exercise designed to explore that technique.
